Portraits of children, caregivers and educators participating in ELRU programmes across communities in the Cape Town region. The photographs were commissioned to document the people and environments connected to the organisation’s work.

Produced over five weeks, the project involved travelling between townships and revisiting locations to build relationships with participants and gain a deeper understanding of the programmes. The portraits were made in homes, classrooms and community centres, documenting both ELRU staff and independent caregivers supported by the organisation.

Created using a mobile studio lighting setup on location, the series combines formal portraiture with a strong sense of place. The resulting body of work provides a record of the people, spaces and communities connected to early childhood development initiatives across the program.
